So I'm trying to come up with some kind of guideline for replacement which I could execute quickly (as opposed to observing each computer to see how the battery is performing).

It's difficult with a bunch of kids who have their computers open and shut all day to establish what their battery runtimes actually are, and children aren't the best reporters of such things anyway. They are used by students and we need to replace the batteries so that the students have a reasonable battery life in the course of their school day. I have a fleet of out of warranty Probooks that use these batteries. I saw one the other day, but it is currently in use, so I can't pull numbers from it. I'm sure I could come up with a PR06 battery in our fleet that has even lower numbers that it is reporting as its designed capacity. I wasn't able to find any specifications online as to the actual designed capacity of the PR06 as expressed in mWh (and if there is a way to calculate it, I don't know how), but 22118 mWh is unlikely to be the actual designed capacity of the battery, given the results on the newer battery. The batteries we are seeing this with are PR06's, and I have another PR06 here that is less than a year old that reports that its designed capacity is 43880 mWh, and its full charge capacity as 43880 mWh. So I have nine 22118 mWh values in the Capacities section. When I run HWMonitor on the same battery, it reports 22118 mWh for all three values - Designed Capacity, Full Charge Capacity, and Current Capacity, and for all three columns, Value, Min, and Max. For instance, one of our students has a battery that comes up asĭesign Capacity 22118 Last Full Charge 22118 in powercfg. Has anyone else seen this? Is this really supposed to work this way?

I haven't had a chance to grab one of our Lenovos to see if they exhibit the same behaviour. It explains why these computers all have 0% wear. Today I took a few minutes to look into this, and discovered that if I run powercfg -energy (we're still Windows 7), the design capacity has dropped to the same number as the last full charge. You should still be able to figure out the wear level by comparing the capacity listed on the battery label against the current full charge capacity. Windows gets its battery information from the controller built into the battery, so if it's programmed to "adjust" the design capacity reported to Windows, then it won't know any different. Your results might vary depending on the controller in your battery. This is an old cheap ebay generic replacement battery. My report shows the design capacity as 57Wh, which is correct and current full charge capacity as 19Wh. It doesn't work like that on my Dell laptop still running Windows 7.
